Safety: Keeping Children Healthy and Safe (including COVID updates)

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain illness-response expectations (colds, flu, and COVID) and communicate updates clearly to families, staff, and the broader program community.
  • Apply consistent criteria for determining when a sick child should go home and outline the family-notification process.

Objective

Establish and maintain practices that protect children and youth through a healthy, safety-focused environment.

Training Approach and Activities

• Deliver structured content, training methods, and timelines aligned to the learning objectives.
• Facilitate activities that support information exchange, build understanding, and reinforce active participation.
• Provide handouts and electronic materials during each session.

Assessment of Learning Objectives
Evaluation methods include facilitated discussion, targeted Q&A, and completion of brief session artifacts (e.g., scenario responses, a practice checklist, or a written reflection) aligned to the learning objectives; no formal tests are used.

Evidence of completion
Documented attendance and completion of the session artifact(s) (scenario response, checklist, or reflection).
Opportunities for discussion with fellow participants are provided to reinforce learning and understanding.

Compliance and Accreditation
Training meets the Missouri Core Competencies and CDA Content Areas. Attendees will receive 3.0 hours of credit for each class taken, which will be entered in MOPD.
